Modding Casemod/Casecon

For modding enthusiasts, we have prepared two highly interesting competitions, Casecon and Casemod, for those who want to start from a box or prefer building mods starting from 0.

Casemod

This consists of modifying a PC based on a normal computer casing. There are no limits on usable materials.

Casecon

This consists of building the machine from scratch or departing from something which, in principle, is not a PC casing. There are no limits on size or materials to use to build the PC.

Regulations:

  1. Only those with the accreditation of Euskal Encounter 29 participants will be able to participate.
  2. Each participant may only present one Mod.
  3. Registration will be carried out via the Euskal Encounter 29 intranet.
  4. A series of features will be rated from 0 to 10 with a decimal value, whereby the final score will be the sum of the points obtained for each of these features.
  5. Each feature will be rated on the basis of the work done or modifications made, and not by the mere act of including purchased components. For example, factory-made graphic cards with built-in passive refrigeration will not score in the “Passive Refrigeration” section. The same applies to raw materials, rated on the basis of the work done and not by the mere fact that a certain material was used.
  6. The ratings will be carried out by the organisation.
  7. The features to assess may be rated three different ways, depending on the feature in question:
  • Positive: Used in the majority of aspects to be evaluated. Its value scores from 0 to 10, so that these always add up.
  • Negative: Used in rated aspects understood to be preferentially optimal, and whose value ranges from 0 to -10, so that these will always subtract. For instance, “cleanliness”: it is normal to be clean, so dirt will begin to score negatively.
  • Symmetrical: These are scores which, starting from 0, may assume positive or negative values depending on assessment, and their values range from -10 to 10. The introduction of symmetrical scores benefits the quality of work, since a bad job in some section will not only not score but may subtract points.

The features to be assessed and their type of scores are:

  • Originality
  • Cleaning
  • Cable management
  • Worklog
  • Operation of components
  • Air cooling (airflow)
  • Lighting
  • Methacrylate/Plastic work
  • Liquid cooling custom
  • Metal work
  • Wired sleeve
  • Work using other materials
  • Innovation
  • Craftwork
  • 3D Printing work / CNC milling machine
  • Electronics / Robotics
  • Painting work
  • Integration of other components
  • Vinyl work
  • Finish, Overall integration and aesthetics
  • Digital work

Each participant must present a short trailer lasting 3 minutes at most. Should you not know how to mount a video, modding photos will be required of both the worklog and the finished mod. You can bring it mounted from home.

Example:

The mod has to be in the party. The organization will go to the seats to see the mods.

  1. You can participate individually or in teams, but in an exclusive manner. Therefore, members of a participating group may not participate individually and a group may not participate if one of its members is already participating. Participating teams will have to inform the organisation of the names of the group members.
  2. Participants will be contacted through Discord to present their mods.
  3. Each participant must be accredited in the Intranet.
  4. If there are any doubts on the application of the regulations, the Hardware organisation will decide on this application.
  5. Any breach of any of the rules will lead to the disqualification of the participant, as well as any cheating in terms of participation or authorship of the work involved. Depending on the seriousness of the breach, other measures may be taken.
  6. A mod that has been awarded in a previous edition may be entered, provided that considerable modifications to it have been made.
  7. All participants must accept the terms and rules of the MODDING COMPETITION in order to participate.
